Welcome to the Department of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Faculty of Basic Medical
Sciences, College of Health Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria.
Human Nutrition and Dietetics focuses on everything related to food and its effects on human
health and his overall well-being. Nutrition and Dietetics programme is designed to equip
students with the requisite knowledge and skills to utilize food and science of nutrition in the
prevention and treatment of diseases, respond to the diverse needs of patients, families, and
careers, within a variety of settings using evidence-based approaches and ethics.
The Department is envisioned to become a department of national and international repute, as
a Centre of Excellence, in the training of professionals in the field of Nutrition and Dietetics
with sound decision-making ability and ground-breaking research in health and nutrition
matters relevant to the 21 st Century. The mission of the Department is to promote good
nutrition and dietetic practices that sustain healthy life through evidenced-based teaching,
innovative research activities and community engagement. The Department is driven by
values such as professionalism, innovation, collaboration, commitment, passion, integrity,
leadership amongst others.
